Update On Violence In Eldoret, Kenya

below is a copy of a letter received by Stephen Andrews, Industrial Chaplain

Dear Stephen

You prayed for me during my mission trip to Eldoret, , in September 2007.  Now Eldoret is in crisis with escalating violence resulting from the disputed outcome of the presidential election last week.  This Wednesday evening, 2nd January, I received the following email from Pastor Chriss Barasa, who coordinated the conference at which I spoke.  I have every reason to believe his words:

Dear Pastor Ralph

I just want to inform you that things have worsened here, but I thank God for your prayers because God has protected my family.  Right now, as I speak to you, more than 2000 people are reported dead in Eldoret town.  In Lagas Estate more than 800 people are reported dead.  Some few hours ago more that 3000 houses are reported burned and 80 people are dead.  The evil spirit is moving around, but I thank God because He will protect His people

I will request you to pray for this nation because there is power in prayer.  I was not able to travel to Rwanda because of security purpose, but God wanted me to remain here in Eldoret so that I can pray for our nation

I will also request you to pray for people whoa re being shielded in my church.  They are there because of security purpose.  There are more than 900 people

My house was also among the houses which were burned and I lost a lot of properties, but I thank God because of His protection.  Things are very difficult here.  Even getting a meal for one day is a problem

Right now we have United Nations officials.  I hope things will be good.  Pray for Kenya.  This is your country to

In His service
