My baby is cuter than yours!!
Often I would debate with a friend who had the cutest baby, not sure why really when it is obviously my daughter Maisy who is right at the top of the premiership cute table. Well what would you expect with the parents that she has?!
I was wondering whether it is just a bit obvious to write about my new daughter, after all she does seem to feature in every conversation I have. But actually I don't care so I am going to.
I look at Maisy and I think how simple her life is, she just eats, sleeps plays and occasionally contributes the odd odour that Haze probably wouldn't want to market. She is totally dependant on us; her parents. If she needs she asks, she trusts that we will protect, she takes her security from us alone. She allows us to pick her up and move her, from room to room and even town to town.
This is the kind of relationship I want with my heavenly father. Not complicated, worrying about how things work, debating current issues, wondering why there is suffering in the world or trying to work out who made God. I just want to be with him constantly, feeling secure, being guided, being provided for and living in full acceptance, no matter what type of odour I produce at times.
It is this type of thinking that I try to keep in the forefront of my mind when leading Unite youth project. I believe that God wants to meet the basic simple needs that our society is so desperate for. That is why we are setting up new youth activities right across the borough, why we are arranging some of the best events for young people, why we are encouraging churches to reach more and more young people.
Jesus encourages us to approach him like a child, not asking loads of complicated questions just simply receiving what he has to offer. As Maisy grows up she will ask questions, challenge and get angry and disappointed with me but I hope that because of the love that has been given to her over the years we will always have that close bond that only parent and child can have.
I wonder as you are reading this are you able to simply approach Jesus like a child or do things get in the way? Do you live your life in knowledge that your heavenly father is even more besotted with you that I am with Maisy?
