June saw the launch of the Government’s £255 million Carers Strategy which I am very keen to support. I support many carers organisations in and around Great Yarmouth and know the important and often unrecognised work they do out of love for their family and friends
This strategy will put in place the necessary support that carers properly deserve, delivering: • more breaks for adult carers ? a review of the flexible working definition of a carer • pilots to look at providing annual health checks for carers with additional training for GPs on how to better recognise the health pressures caring can bring ? a good practice guide for employers • more flexible and accessible skills training for carers ? training for key professionals to support carers • better support and protection for children and young people to prevent inappropriate caring
This month I have... Here is a snapshot of some of the meetings and events I have had and attended during June. Get in touch if you’d like to know more about any of them. Met With • Union representatives and Minister Jane Kennedy regarding the future of the HM Revenue and Customs office at Havenbridge House • Joe McIntosh from Sea Change, an arts development organization, to talk about local arts funding • Charles Beardall, our area representative at the Environment Agency • Prime Minister Gordon Brown regarding the impact of gambling legislation on the gaming industry • A representative from the Great Yarmouth Visually Impaired Persons User Group • An officer from the Borough Council to discuss youth services in the Borough • Fellow Norfolk MP, Dr Ian Gibson, to discuss the future of Parkside School in Norwich, a special needs school with pupils from Great Yarmouth • A representative from the East of England Development Agency • The new Flood Liaison Officer for Northgate Street • Trish Aydin, Chief Executive of Community Connections
