Precious in his sight
"When my bones were being formed, carefully put together in my mother's womb. When I was growing there in secret, you knew that I was there. You saw me before I was born. The days allotted to me had all been recorded in your book before any of them ever began." (Psalm 139 vss: 15-16)
On this final day of considering God's blessings on us who are His in this largely godless world and let's have a look at the big picture.
Every psychologist will agree that our self worth is of prime importance in living life to the full. The World will only respect us if we succeed in its eyes through the accumulation of wealth, career success or outstanding acheivements of some sort, whereas God sees things quite differently. We are of infinite value to him whether we are successful in the eyes of the World or not!
Above all the World admires self reliance, personal strength and independence. The well known song "I did it my way" is even played at funerals as a justification for whatever kind of life has been led. Such pride has no place in the Kingdom of Heaven.
I believe that God is looking for a humble people, a people who will walk in His ways and rely utterly on Him. When you do this you become a child of God, precious in His sight and therefore of infinite value. Surely this is what Jesus meant when He said that he had come that we might have life and have it more abundantly. The Bible tells us to "Delight in the Lord and He will fulfill the desires of your heart!"
If I may leave you with one thought alone it is this. God loves you. Every hair on your head has been counted. He sees your coming in and your going out. You are precious in his sight and he watched over you when you were still in the darkness of your mother's womb. He sent Christ to pay the price for your sin and take away the burden of guilt you may feel. He will be there at your death ready to receive you into your heavenly home where he will perso nally wipe every tear from your eyes. What greater cause for joy could we have than this?
Prayer:
Father I rejoice in all your promises to those who love you and I pray that those who feel that they are "losers" in the sight of the World will realise that there are only "winners" in the Kingdom of God. Amen.
