Dwarfs seen in Gorleston

On the 27th you would have been forgiven for thinking that the seven dwarfs were walking through the Dwarfs seen in GorlestonMagdalen Estate, shovels and hoes in hand as twenty young people came together in the mission to transform part of the estate. The point of the day, organised by Unite and the Gorleston Hope 08 committee, was to simply love and serve the community.  Most of the day was spent gardening: one garden in particular belonged to 90+ year old lady, who for obvious reason struggled to cope with all her garden. The team, that comprised young people from the Magdalen Estate and further afield, were able to transform a large area of brambles and other overgrown plants into a levelled area good enough for anyone's prize winning potatoes. The owner of the garden was close to tears as she explained how she didn't think young people were like this any more and that they didn't want anything in return for their labour. One of the other projects that the team took on was clearing leaves in a home for the elderly. This job looked a little easier but turned out to be far from it: after the full bin bag count had hit double figures but still there were leaves everywhere the size of the job became more obvious. The team however didn't stop and managed to clear three very large gardens and only once stopped for the inevitable leaf fight

It was not just this social action day that had been arranged, Unite had organised a coach trip to soul survivorexotic Norwich, to take young people to the Soul Survivor Roadshow. Over 60 people came from the Great Yarmouth area to join a further 500 hundred people from all over the region. The evening was a great encouragement for everyone, there was mix of great worship and a challenging message. Mike Pilavachi, leader of Soul Survivor hosted the celebration and also talked from his favourite bible verse; Zephaniah 3:17. The message would have given everyone something to think about and probably too much for anyone to take on in full. Most people agreed, however, that the most awesome part of the evening was the incredible worship and the opportunity just to spend time with God

There was something very ordered about the day for those people that starting by doing the social action, it seemed quite obvious as they gave during the morning God more than gave back in the evening

Unite is planning on arranging further social over the next 12 months, if this is something that you would like to get involved in why not give the office a call on 01493 857722
