Love, Marriage and being single
by Yvonne Hill
It was a weekend of discussion on love and marriage down at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Burn t Lane, Gorleston at the weekend.
The guest speaker was the director of the Youth Ministry, Pastor Colin Stewart from the SEC headquarters in Watford. He presented an excellent programme discussing all aspects of courtship and marriage and the importance of placing God at the centre of all decisions when it comes to matters of the heart. It was pointed out that it was not a good idea to be unevenly yoked as it can cause a lot of unhappiness.
Pastor Stewart said that more needs to be done to provide social events for our young adults. There is nothing wrong with being single some people prefer it that way. However, it must be remembered that they are important to the church and they need our friendship, support and prayers. The church recognises the need to think and plan more for the Young Adult Ministry to move forward and to reach the singles.
It is very hard for young people to live up to their principles in the modern world and so they need to have a healthy understanding of what true love is and to rely on God's guidance in prayer.
The young adult’s membership at the Adventist church here in Gorleston has grown dramatically and it is good to see these young people take such an active part in the church holding responsible offices and helping to run the church.
After the morning service there was an excellent fellowship lunch followed by an afternoon discussion and debate on love and marriage.
