Norwich Church says farewell to Fairtrade
A Norwich church has decided to disband their Fairtrad e stall in order to encourage their members to buy fairly traded goods from mainstream supermarkets.
After several years of running a successful Fairtrade stall, Norwich Central Baptist Church have decided to stop selling the goods – including chocolate, tea, coffee and cereals – to enable regular customers to purchase these elsewhere during their weekly shop.
Fairtrade organiser at NCBC, Judith Pearson explains, “Our stall has been very popular and we have sold a huge range of items after the services. However, over the years as awareness about Fairtrade has grown and more supermarkets have been persuaded to sell these goods, we want to encourage our members to buy the products from supermarkets who have taken this initiative."
NCBC now serves Fairtrade tea and coffee after Sunday services and holds Fairtrade coffee evenings where the cakes served are baked using Fairtrade ingredients such as sugar, honey and chocolate.
