I Love Mondays!!

Monday nights didn’t used to mean that much to me. As Bob Geldof legendarily said; “I don’t like Mondays”. At one point I couldn’t have agreed more.
Perhaps you asking ‘so what has changed?’ Maybe this sounds corny, but everything has changed and for the better.
Three and a half years ago I took a gamble with life and decided to buy a house in Great Yarmouth. Originally it was a buy-to-let venture, but following the breakdown of my marriage that same year I decided to try and start a new life for myself in Norfolk and leave London behind. My profession is as a registered nurse. I got a job at the local hospital and began to find my way in Norfolk life, making friends with my new neighbours and work colleagues.
As a practising Christian I was also praying and searching for somewhere new to worship. I found an invitation on my doorstep one day soon after I moved in inviting me to The Tabernacle for Sunday service. Since this was the only obvious sign I had received about where to go, I decided to attend. I was warmly welcomed and soon got to know the congregation.
Within a few weeks I decided to try the Monday evening worship that was geared toward the youth of the congregation. It was, I discovered, attended by youth from other local churches too. That is what I found so special and what I still find special about the fellowship on Monday nights. It represents what many outsiders to Christianity may say is lacking from the movement today: that is UNITY
What I think puts so many people off church today is the reality that so many Christians do not get along. The fact that this is often played out in the public arena for all to see makes it even more off-putting. The ‘us and them’ mentality of some groups sends out a confusing message; one that I believe perpetuates the hesitation of so many to move forwards and believe.
The meeting has evolved, as have the people in it over the past three years and the night has now become know as GY (for God’s Youth/God’s Yarmouth). Currently regulars to the night represent people from seven different local and UK ministries. Though the average age is still around 20, the age range of attendees is from 16 to 47 at present! The vision has now become for the night to travel to other congregations that would have it, so that many more can discover the rich sense of unity.
The night is currently hosted at Park Baptist Church on Crown Road at 7.30pm every Monday. If you are looking for answers and/or want help making sense of the Christian faith please visit one evening. It’s unmissable!
