Playday 2009 at St Nicholas Recreation Ground
PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF VENUE!!
Looking for a fun and free day out with your children this Summer? Then Playday is for you......
Playday is the annual celebration of children’s right to play – a national campaign, which this year reaches its peak on Wednesday 5 August. On Playday and throughout the summer of 2009, thousands of children, young people and communities will get out and play at hundreds of locally organised events across the UK.
For the first time ever we will be holding a Playday event in Great Yarmouth. This will be in the recently refurbished St Nicholas Recreation Ground, South Beach Parade, Great Yarmouth (between Kingsd Road and Dickens Avenue opposite the Pleasure Beach) from 11am – 3.30pm on Wednesday 5 August. This will be an open event enabling families with children to come and go as they please. You will be responsible for supervising your own children.
As well as being a great opportunity for children and young people to get out and play for the day, Playday provides an opportunity to raise awareness about some serious issues affecting children’s play. This year’s Playday theme is Make time! The campaign is asking everyone to make time for play.
In St. Georges Park there will be the opportunity for children to engage in ‘free play’ activities such as Den Building, Junk modelling etc.......the kind of activities that the children can engage in themselves without adults directing them.
The day will highlight the fact that all children have the right to play and need time and space to play as well as increase awareness of the benefits of play and encourage children to spend more time playing. There are nearly 90 Playgrounds across the Borough as well as other Play opportunities and Playday will enable families to find out about more places where they can go to play.
So if you are looking for a fun event to go along to with your children in the Summer Holidays put Playday onto your Calendar.
The play opportunities available on the day will be provided by a number of different organisations.
