The Induction and Celebration of Rev Chris Terry

ThP1030092 webe Institution and induction of the new Gt Yarmouth Team Rector, Revd Chris Terry, took place on Friday 20th November at St Nicholas Church Gt Yarmouth.
 
 
The church service was well attended with people from all denominations and also local dignitaries which included MP Tony Wright and the Deputy Mayor Councillor Terry Easton and his wife and also the Deputy Lord-Lieutenant of Norfolk.
 
Rural Dean, Revd Irene Knowles, gave a warm welcome to the congregation and announced the processional Hymn. The procession was led by the Bishop of Norwich (Rt Revd Graham James). Also in the procession was Patron Rt Revd Graham Charles Morell Smith (Dean of Norwich Cathedral); a representative from Chris’s previous ministry Christopher Lowson (Director of Ministry at the Archbishops’ Council in Westminster); and The Venerable DaP1030103 webvid Hayden (Archdeacon of Norfolk) and members of the Ministerial Team for the Parish. 
 
 
The Bishop introduced the service and invited representatives from other denominations to come forward to greet and offer their good wishes to the new Incumbent. 
 
 
The Scripture reading 1 Cor. 12: 12-18 was read by Mrs June Baker who is the Lay Chairman of the Deanery Synod. The Bishop gave an excellent sermon based on the reading which talks about the body being one but made of many parts. He said that tonight Yarmouth will have a new part.
 
 
The BP1030115 WEBishop read out the Deed of Institution whilst the new minister held the Episcopal seal, the Deed was then handed to him and the Bishop blessed him. The Induction was then executed by The Venerable David Hayden, Archdeacon of Norfolk.
 
 
The congregation was asked to turn to the main door of the church whilst The Archdeacon led the new Incumbent to the door. Placing his hand upon the handle of the door he said:-
 
 
"P1030116 WEBChristopher Terry, by authority of the bishop, I induct you into the real actual and corporal possession of this church and Parish to hold the same in shared stewardship with the people of this place. The Lord preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth and for evermore. Amen."
 
 
The new Incumbent rang the bell to mark the beginning of his new ministry and the Archdeacon led him to his stall with the words:-
 
 
"Christopher, I install you as the incumbent of this Parish. Pray for your people; lead them in their worship and witness and be to them in all things a faithful minister of Christ. God keep you in his care; Christ empowers you with his love; the Holy Spirit lead you in the ways of truth and peace". Amen.
 
 
The Symbols of Ministry were finally presented to the new Team Rector by persons acting on behalf of the P1030124whole benefice:- A Large Jug of water, the Bible, the Book of Common Prayer, a Jug of Oil, Bread and Wine.
 
 
After prayers and blessings the organist, John Farmer, played a short voluntary Fantasia in G as the new Incumbent was led by the Bishop through the church followed by the leaders which included the Bishop of Thetford The Rt Alan Winton. 
 
 
The evening was brought to a close with a buffet and drinks that had been expertly prepared by the ladies of the church. Finally there was an opportunity to extend the hand of fellowship with the new Rector
