Social Whirl at Magdalen Way Methodist Church
Church attendance figures over the Christmas period were up around the whole country. More than the usual 5% of the population came and engaged in the story of our Lord’s birth. Services at Easter will be busy as people who normally do not attend will come to hear the story of Christ’s Passion, his death and resurrection. We are very pleased to see you if you are part of this group but I urge you to see what your local churches are doing on days other that Sundays because the Church is waking up to the fact that Sundays have changed and for the vast majority of people attending a service on a Sunday morning is very difficult
At Magdalen Way Methodist Church we have taken this problem on board and are trying new ways. Our Sunday School has developed and now includes “Messy Church” once a month on a Tuesday after school. Regularly on the 2nd Tuesday in the month at 3.30 p.m children aged up to 12 years come and have fun and games and a drink and a biscuit to wind down after school. At 4 p.m. there is a choice of up to 6 different craft activities for them to do until 5 p.m. Then we go into the church, display what they have made, tell them a story from the Old or New Testament and sing worship songs. They accompany us with various very loud musical instruments and a good time is had by all. At 5.15 p.m. we all sit down for a meal together. All for the price of just £1 for the child and their parent or another adult with them comes free. We have found that the story’s we are telling is new to many adults as well. Our next dates are the 9th March, 13th April and every 2nd Tuesday in the month after that. Why not come and see and join in the fun
If you can’t make a Sunday but desperately do want to praise God in prayers and praise hymns then again, once a month on the 3rd Wednesday evening from 7.30 p.m we have live music played to favourite hymns ancient and modern. We pray for our world and our community and anyone close to people’s hearts and we sing with great gusto. There is no sermon! Next Praise and Prayer evenings are, 17th March 21st April
From Sunday 28th March at 4pm we launch our newest way of being church differently. A Café Church called “Hot Potato!” We will be serving food in the form of a hot jacket potato but just as important as food is to our bodies we offer a chance to have a Hot Potato discussion. Is there something you have being longing to get off your chest about how the world is going and what has the Church got to say about it or where is God when you need Him most then this is the one you should try
Finally did you know you can get a hot 2 course lunch, with friendly company for just £2.50? For the last year we have been serving wonderful meals on the last Friday of every month at 12.30pm. The Church is open for private prayer. Rather than sit on your own why not come and enjoy a meal with company occasionally. Our next lunches are, 26th Feb and 26th March
I look forward to seeing you at Magdalen Way Methodist Church but if you don’t live near us why not pop in and see what your local church is offering, you might surprise yourself
