Latest News from BMS Wolrd Mission 11/03/10

A good education system is key to Bangladesh's future. In a rural area in the north of the country, a Christian school with a rich heritage is seeking to lay solid foundations in the lives of children, many of whom are poor. BMS worker Les Allan has arrived there to support the staff team and you can read more from him about this work via the link below
Also, the much-anticipated Street Child World Cup begins in South Africa next week - and BMS will be there. This is not just an event about football; it's an opportunity to speak out for the rights of street children in that country and millions more globally

Education
For two centuries, Carey Memorial School has been educating local children in a rural part of Bangladesh. BMS worker Les Allan joined the school as an education advisor six months ago and writes here about his role in helping the school look to the future. Run by the Bangladesh Baptist Church Union, Carey Memorial School in Dinajpur has a Christian ethos and aims to provide a quality education to children of all backgrounds. Half of the 300 students are Christian and many live in the boys' and girls' hostels on the compound. They come from the surrounding rural area where school provision is patchy. Many have disadvantaged backgrounds with a number coming from either the Urao or Santal indigenous communities. The other students are mostly from Muslim families who live nearby.
