Getting 'Open the Book' into schools

Carolyn Cliff is a Lay Minister from St Nicholas Church, Great Yarmouth and she's heading up a team to get OPEN THE BOOK into local schools. Open The Book is a scheme to relay Bible stories to children, usually during assemblies
OPEN THE BOOK
OPEN THE BOOK offers primary school children an opportunity to hear the major stories of the Bible in an interactive and enjoyable way during assembly times. Teams of Christians from local churches tell the stories in a 10-15 minute presentation. This can be incorporated into a wider school assembly, or stand alone
OPEN THE BOOK 2
All the Year One stories are taken from The Lion Storyteller Bible written by Bob Hartman, and give an overview of the Bible from Creation to the Ascension. There are a further 2 years of themed material for those schools (and teams) who wish to continue. It is a mark of OPEN THE BOOK's popularity that most schools continue with the programme!

OPEN THE BOOK fulfils both OFSTED and SIAS (Church School Inspection) requirements for Collective Worship, and has been successfully used in a multi-faith context

There is free training on Friday 29th July at 7pm at St Nicholas Church, Church Plain, Great Yarmouth, NR30 1NE  for anyone who is interested

I have been going into my local infant school as part of the 'open the book' team for nearly a year now and i have been amazed at the wonderful response we have had from the teachers and other staff at the school..the children love the bible stories and have joined us on many occasions in small acting roles which they really enjoy.Getting to know the children and working more closely with the schools has led us to inviting them all (and the parents!) to one or two 'open the book' special services at the church and the launch of our 'messy church' which has been very succesful.I would say to anyone who might be considering joining a team to just GIVE IT A TRY...we have such fun dressing up and 'acting' and the rewards are endless !!
