Rev Dr Pat Took to speak at Norfolk Theological Society

PAT TOOKThe speaker at the next meeting of Norfolk Theological Society, on Thursday 13th October, is the President of the Baptist Union of Great Britain, the Rev Dr Pat Took. Though Pat's title starts with a Baptist focus, the topic is applicable to us all - whatever our churchmanship. Her topic is "The Crown Rights of the Redeemer": Simply "A fine old Baptist phrase"? Or relevant to all today? The Kingship of Christ and the Claims of the State

Rev Sue Seeley, Baptist rep on the NTS Committee says, "It's a great privilege that Dr Took has agreed to speak at Norfolk Theological Society during her very busy presidential year. This is not simply of interest to Baptists. After all Jesus said 'Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's and unto God the things that are God's. In these days of the welfare state and also of religious values being eroded in national life, we could all do with some help in thinking through where the boundaries lie. And Dr Took is a tremendously stimulating and challenging speaker"

Rev Patricia Took comes from a family of Londoners, with a strong Christian (Baptist and Quaker) tradition, and a commitment to Socialist politics and the Trade Union movement. She trained for the Baptist ministry and, having been a church pastor, later becoming Team Leader of the London Baptist Association. (If Baptists had bishops Pat would be one). She retired from that post in September 2010 and became President of the Baptist Union in May 2011

Norfolk Theological Society meetings, which occur three times a year, take place at St Luke’s Centre, Aylsham Road, Norwich, NR3 2HF. The meeting with Rev Dr Took is on Thursday 13th October 7.00 — 9.30pm. There is a charge of £4 per meeting to cover venue and speaker costs
