Volunteers are needed to help run the Shrublands Cafe in Gorleston
The Shrublands Community Café is run by the Manager, Brian Buckley, and Supervisor, Simone. The café provides a valuable service supplying refreshments for people visiting the centre. It is a great place to come for those who visit the Shrublands Medical Centre and also the Seagulls Centre. The café has been running since July 2011, however, few people know that it is there. Brian said that they have ordered a couple of A boards which will be placed outside and this should lead people to the café. The cafe is open to everyone, you don't have to belong to the gym or take part in the events.
Gym classes are held at the centre and the facilities are also used by a variety of clubs and organisations. Whilst we were there, many people came for a drink and light refreshments which is very handy after working out in the gym or attending one of the many activities in the centre. One very useful facility on offer is free internet accessand laptops are something that is being considered. Brian has great enthusiasm to meet the needs of his customers and has many ideas for the future.
The food is well prepared and is very reasonably priced. Opening hours are from 10.30am to 1.30pm and it is still possible to get food and drinks from 8am to 8pm from the vending machines.
Brian said that they have recently introduced hot snacks which means that you can choose baked potatoes with a variety of filling, delicious toasties, soup and toasted tea cakes and toast.
The café is looking for volunteers to help out, if anyone is interested then you can contact Brian on 07985187217 or just pop in during opening hours.
