OPEN THE BOOK

OPEN THE BOOK - a project which takes Bible stories into primary school collective worship. Teams of volunteer storytellers from local churches use drama, mime, props, costume in ways that are lively, engaging, informative and fun

Come along and find out how you can get involved. Even better, come along as a group and be prepared to have a go in our practical workshops

OPEN THE BOOK 2OPEN THE BOOK is a national scheme which has been running since 1999. It is an excellent way of taking Bible stories into schools, improving the biblical literacy of children and adults alike. All materials are written by experienced educators and there are 'scripts' for each session so that preparation by teams is limited to the style of presentation, not the content. Words to introduce the time for reflection and a short prayer are included. Offered as a free service to primary schools, Open the Book assists with the statutory requirement for community schhools to hold a daily act of collective worship which is 'wholly or broadly Christian' and is entirely appropriate for church schools where worship must always be Christian

We would encourage ecumenical teams of many different styles. Training will be active and fun with very clear guidance on how to get started, sourcing resources and how to get in contact with the Diocesan Open the Book Coordinator

Information about the national scheme can be found at www.openthebook.net

OPEN THE BOOK fulfils both OFSTED and SIAS (Church School Inspection) requirements for Collective Worship, and has been successfully used in a multi-faith context
