Major New Campaign Against Redefinition of Marriage
Greetings from CARE!
Can you please help on an urgent matter? You may be aware that David Cameron has announced that there will be a consultation in England and Wales on redefining marriage to include same-sex relationships. We are strongly opposed to this and are campaigning to preserve the fundamental nature of marriage – the voluntary union of one man and one woman for life to the exclusionof all others – that is so crucial for the good of society
To this end, CARE, Christian Concern, The Christian Institute and the Evangelical Alliance, as well as a wide variety of otherorganisations, have formed The Coalitionfor Marriage - an important national grassroots initiative launched today. You may read about it in the press and social media
Please click here to download the Coalition forMarriage petition and here to download a Coalition for Marriage poster - you can find out more by visiting http://www.care.org.uk/marriage where youwill also find some information about why we believe redefining marriage is abad idea. Would you please prayerfully consider printing it out and gathering asmany signatures as possible - from your family, friends and people at church? We believe a large response could persuade David Cameron to rethink, as he sees the huge groundswell of opinion opposed tothis proposed change, and ‘kick it into the long grass'
Ideally, please make copies of the signed petitions beforeposting them back to the Coalition office (the address is on the petition), make an appointment at your local MP's weekly surgery and show the originals to him orher. Why not ask others to come with you?
We are deeply concernedabout this matter, and believe that this proposal to alter the nature ofmarriage so radically marks a decisive moment in our nation's history. We must do all we can to oppose it
Yours sincerely Nola Leach Chief Executive and Head of Public Affairs
