News from the Mag September 2023
MATTHEW PRICE 04-2021

Reverend Matthew Price
Vicar, St Mary Magdalene Church, Gorleston

We love singing at St Mary Mags!

Recently, I have been reflecting on why singing and indeed music is such an important part of the Christian tradition. And I think it is because there is something about music which lifts the soul and the lyrics of a song can often speak to us on a much deeper level than simply spoken word

SONGS OF PRAISE SMMMany of us, I am sure will be able to remember with great fondness the songs we sang as children at church or at school during assemblies. It’s no wonder, then, that Jason Manford’s record “Assembly Bangers” which was released just before Christmas last year was so popular. It evoked for so many happy times of singing in school. If you haven’t seen it, you can find it by searching on YouTube

So I wonder what is your favourite hymn or Christian chorus

Whilst singing forms an important part of our services each Sunday, every few months we have a special event where we are able to sing more songs together than is possible on a Sunday morning. We are also able to accommodate requests for songs or hymns that are particularly important to those in our community.

The next of these Songs of Praise event takes place on Saturday 23rd September at 2.30pm in the church building. Everyone is welcome and there will be refreshments served afterwards. Why not come along and enjoy a good singsong! And, if you would like to request a hymn or song, you can do so by emailing admin@stmmgorleston.org.uk or calling the church office on 655523
