THE Mission to Seafarers’ port chaplain in Great Yarmouth is celebrating the arrival of a vehicle which is greatly enhancing his ministry.

Port chaplain Peter Paine took delivery of the 7-seater Ford S-Max in March and it has already proved itself to be a valuable asset to his ministry.

‘The car is fantastic,’ says Peter. ‘Before, seafarers would have to take a cab or walk into town but now I am able to help. The car has been also assisted me in providing transport for seafarers who need to get into town to buy personal items, and helps me take books and information to them which would otherwise have proved difficult to transport around the port.’

The car has been purchased with the generosity of The Merchant Navy Welfare Board, The International Transport Workers’ Federation, Great Yarmouth Port Authority and The Mission to Seafarers.

‘All of the organisations that have contributed so kindly to the fund recognise the importance of the work we do in ensuring seafarers are not forgotten. I am so thankful for their support and I look forward to helping the many seafarers who visit Great Yarmouth as I go about my daily work.’
