Bank Holiday Weekend. What will it mean for you? For many it will be a chance to catch-up with all those jobs that you meant to do, but never got around to doing, in the house or in the garden. For some it will be a barbecue or a trip to the tip or the garden centre. It might even be a visit to that member of the family that you keep saying you will call and see, but time has passed and still you haven’t had the time to call on them. Or are you going out for a ride in the car somewhere?
If you are travelling, and you have youngsters with you, it won’t be long until the cry goes up “Are we there yet?” Sometimes the cry goes up just after you have started?
This Sunday is known as Whitsunday or Pentecost. It is the time when the Christian Church celebrates the coming of the promised Holy Spirit and the birth of the early Church. Jesus had said that when he went back to the Father he would send his Spirit to be with his followers for ever. It was the beginning of a very special journey for all his followers that still goes on today.
The Churches Together in Bradwell and Gorleston will be holding a mission next year called ‘Hope 08’. There will be events held throughout the year to which everyone is invited. But we are not waiting until next year to launch the mission, we are starting now. There will be a special launch day on Sunday, the 27th, at St Andrew’s Church in Goreleston at 2.30pm.
This will be a coming together of local churches for a time of celebration including singing, a picnic tea, bouncy castle and lots, lots more. Everyone is very welcome to join us.
Are we there yet? Well, not quite, but we will have a good start.
