Church recycling project gets up to speed

Unwanted bikes are getting a new lease of life, rather than ending up on the scrapheap, thanks to a Yarmouth church project.

 

King’s Church – Mustard Seed, which works with youth and community clubs to help young people develop new skills, will be given the bikes which ahe been sent to Norfolk’s recycling centres.

 

Usually unwanted bikes which arrive at recycling sites are recycled with other scrap metals such as saucepans and household appliances, but Norfolk County council has decided they can be better used by the group.

 

Councillor Ian Monson, cabinet member for environment and waste on the county council, said: “It is great that a specific reuse for the bicycles has been found rather than them just ending up on the scrapheap. We are especially pleased that the charity involved is working with young people.”

 

Leon Pendergrast of Mustard Seed, said: “We are delighted that Norfolk County Council is able to help us with our project. The young people taking part will use the bikes to gain valuable practical skills such as mechanics.”
