Norwich Citadel Band celebrates 125th in style

The climax of celebrations to mark the Norwich Salvation Army Citadel Band’s 125th takes place on OCitadelBandctober 27 with a worldwide reunion.

 
Over 100 former members of the band are expected to return from around the world to celebrate the event.
 
The concert, ‘Celebrate 125’, will take place at The Citadel in St. Giles’ St, Norwich, at 7pm, on Saturday October 27, at 7pm, when guest soloists will be two former players, now professional players in prestigious UK orchestras. Guest players include James Maynard, who is now a trombonist with The London Symphony Orchestra, and Alwyn Green, also a trombonist with The Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
 
“Over 50 former members are planning to bring their instruments and swell the present band to what will probably be the largest brass band ever assembled in Norwich,” said the Band’s David Woodrow. “It should be quite an occasion and quite a sound! So if you like brass bands, the Citadel will be the place to be on October 27.”

Norwich Citadel Band was formed in 1882, and throughout the years has played a major role in the religious and civic life of Norwich.
 
CitadelBandOldIn a few weeks’ time the band will be leading the civic and military Remembrance Day Parade in Norwich, and in December will be a familiar sight in the City, bringing the message and spirit of Christmas to the thousands of shoppers in Norwich.
 
General William Booth visited Norwich in 1882 and commanded the citizens of the ancient city to “Get a drum and rouse Norwich from one end to the other!” the rest as they say is history.
