Disability Sunday is marked in Norwich
Churches are being encouraged to think about the needs of disabled people on Disability Sunday, O ctober 7, as a new Disabled Christians Fellowship group launches in Norwich.
Disability Sunday 2007 is being promoted by all the leading Christian disability charities, including Disabled Christians Fellowship and Torch Trust for the Blind, as an opportunity to encourage churches to think about the needs of disabled people
In Norwich, a new Disabled Christians Fellowship group launches on Thursday October 11 at 2pm at Witard Road Baptist Church. Meanwhile the Norwich Torch Fellowship Group hold their regular monthly meeting at City Church Cowgate at 3pm on Sunday October 7.
Disability Sunday aims to challenge churches to:
• Show disabled people that God cares about them and their needs
• Raise understanding of the issues faced by disabled people in the church and the wider community
• Give people affected by disability a voice in the church by enabling more people with disabilities to take part in their worship
• Show that God responds to and uses disability in many different ways by preaching or teaching on disability in a Biblical context
• Show that including disabled people isn't a burden, but is a blessing and can be fun
Norwich Torch Fellowship Group committee member Dorothy Read said: “Why not arrange for a disabled person to play a part in a service on October 7, include an item in the service that affirms that disabled people are truly welcome and included within the life of your church or organize an activity that helps your congregation to better understand disabled people and their needs.”
