The Minster Choristers sing at Norwich Cathedral

as published in Great Yarmouth Parish Life
The Choristers joined with our own choir for Easter Sunday Choral Evensong to sing very challenging and exciting settings of the Wag and Nunc' and Psalm 150 by Stanford and the anthem Blessed be the God and Father (Wesley)
The highlight of this, their first year was when they joined with the boy trebles and Gentlemen of Norwich Cathedral Choir on Sunday 6th May, under the direction of Ashley Grote, the Master of the Music (photo right courtesy of Martyn Marshall)
The Choristers adapted extremely well and thoroughly enjoyed the pre-service rehearsal in the Music School rehearsal room. It was their first experience of singing with such a superb choir, It was very moving and exciting to hear and see them in rehearsal. After a break they went into the Cathedral choir stalls to practice, another first for them, it must have been quite a wonderful inspiring experience
Then came the time for Evensong; the choristers looked so smart in their scarlet cassocks, making quite a colourful display in the choir stalls with the Cathedral magenta cassocks They were attentive and eager to sing, showing what they could do after being well-trained by Martyn Marshall.  I heard that this was the first time that an outside choir had joined forces with the Cathedral Choir. Something that we hope will be repeated. It was a hard work and smiles occasion
The music was the same as they had sung on Easter Day, but with much more confidence and with obvious enjoyment. They were extremely well-behaved, a great credit to GY Minster, helping to lead the worship in our Cathedral
Thanks go to Martyn Marshall and to Revd Jemma for all the hard work and planning that goes into the Thursday rehearsals, music, and admin, etc. etc. and also to the willing helpers.  One person I would like to single out is Rosemarie Brown who has taken on the position of wardrobe mistress and has done a great job in altering many robes so that each chorister has a robe (photos below courtesy of Jane Freeman)
