Friday 3rd July
Heavenly Father, one of the first things You said after creating us was, "It is not good for man to be alone". Well, You certainly got that right! I like my own company, doing the things I enjoy, watching the film I want to, listening to the music I want to, eating the food I want to, coming and going as I please: being selfish; but after a while I find there is less and less joy in me, a hunger comes up which cannot be satisfied by a film, a song, a symphony or food; I want, need, someone to share these things with. It is not good for man to be alone. You created us for a relationship with You and with other people
Lord Jesus, You surrounded Yourself with friends, twelve of them, and three were particularly close: Peter, James, and John. We know You were also very close to Lazarus, Mary, and Martha. You regularly met with people in their homes, shared meals with them
Your mother, Mary, was not left alone, Joseph was with her during Your childhood and when You were on the cross, You made sure she was not left alone. When You saw Your mother there, and the disciple whom You loved standing nearby, You said to her, "Woman, here is your son"; and to the disciple, "Here is your mother". From that time on, this disciple took her into his home
The apostle Paul travelled with and lived with others. His letter to the Romans ends with greetings from Timothy, Lucius, Jason, Sosipater, Tertius, Gaius, Erastus, and Quartus. ‘Payments’ may be contactless, but we should not be. May I meet and greet others today

Thursday 2nd July
Heavenly Father, thank You for the blessing of this day. Another opportunity to meet with You, to learn from You, be satisfied by You
Life can never satisfy our hunger, possessions can never quench our thirst; only You can do this. No matter how much I have, how much I earn, how much I spend, it is never enough. Do I own the things I possess, or do they possess me? Who or what is in control?
Lord Jesus, when a rich young man came to You and asked what he must do to inherit eternal life, You said, "You know the commandments: 'You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, you shall not defraud, honour your father and mother'". The young man looked at You, he had done all these things. You loved him saying, "One thing you lack, go and sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in Heaven. Then come, follow me". His face fell and he went away sad, because he had great wealth. He missed the offer You made to the other disciples, "Come, follow me." His name could have been among the Twelve, but he was possessed by what he owned and could not let it go
Joy or sadness, we get to choose. You told the woman at the well You could quench her thirst, "Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst". You satisfied the 5000 on the hillside
Only You can fully satisfy for You are the Bread of Life. You can enable streams of Living Water to flow from within us. Lord Jesus, once again I come to be satisfied by You

Wednesday 1st July
Heavenly Father, thank You that I am welcomed into Your presence. If it weren't for Jesus I could not make this claim but by the power of His blood I am cleansed of all unrighteousness and therefore welcomed into the court of the King
Your blood washes away my sin and transforms me, renewing my mind and enabling me to understand what Jesus has done for me. I do not understand everything, but Your Spirit reassures me of the one thing I need to know: I am saved by Jesus, I am saved by grace, Your grace shown to me when I was still far off
You demonstrated Your own love for us in this: "While we were still sinners, Christ died for us". This is the greatest love! Jesus said, "Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends"
What an incredible, awesome God You are, coming here, to earth to lay down Your life for us, for me, making me Your friend, having given Your life as a ransom. How can I ever thank You? I can come before You every day and offer a sacrifice of praise and worship, offer myself as a living sacrifice.
You tell us, "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God - this is your true and proper worship". This sacrifice is pleasing to You, giving my life to You; not just Sunday morning, but my whole life surrendered. This might seem strange, a surrender sets me free, nevertheless this is the Truth. I give my life to You and You give it back to me, renewed. Thank You

Tuesday 30th June
Heavenly Father, I remember an old British actor called Robertson Hare, known as 'Bunny', who always played a gentle soul, but always found himself in difficulties, giving rise to his catchphrase, "Oh calamity!"
I dare say the early disciples could well have found this on their lips on many occasions, but Jesus had provided a different word and a different response: "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid"
I love the way calamity can be transformed, simply by removing a few letters: calamity - calm. And I love the Way You tell us, "Be still and know that I AM God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth"
Lord Jesus, when You returned after Your crucifixion, resurrected, You appeared to the disciples as they hid in the upper room, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, You came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!". The command "Be still" means step back, watch, release, relax, peace - Immanuel - God is with you
The Psalmist wrote, "The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?" There may well be storms, troubles, calamities even, but I know I can be still and see what the Lord can do. I can be still for the presence of the Lord, the Holy One is here. I can be still, for the glory of the Lord is shining all around. And I can be still for the power of the Lord is moving in this place. Thank You. Awesome God. Peace

Be Still for the Presence of the Lord performed by David Evans
Monday 29th June
Heavenly Father, Jesus said, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full"
What is a full life? How do I measure it? Is it measured by time, longevity? This can't be it for too many Christian men and women die too young
Is it measured by accomplishment? I don't believe this to be the case either, as I am saved by grace, not by works, so I cannot boast
Is it the quality of life, the many blessings and comforts, I have? This also cannot be the Way as Jesus said, "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me... Store up for yourselves treasures in Heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal"
Jesus also said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free". And he also said, "By this everyone will know you are my disciples, if you love one another"
Thank You for showing me the Way, the Truth and the Life: Jesus
Thank You that Jesus is Immanuel - God with us
Thank You for Your written Word, given to guide us into the Way of Life; a kind of Him-manual
Thank You for Your Holy Spirit, alive in us, a deposit, guaranteeing our inheritance, who can give us wisdom and revelation so we may know You better
Thank You for Eternal Life, knowing that whatever comes we are safe with You
It is not how long I live or what I have or what I do, it is who I know. Thank You Jesus
