Heavenly Father, thank You for Your faithfulness. In a world where things can change so easily, in a moment, You are constant, unchanging. Your name tells us that You are the same yesterday, today, and forever
When Moses met with You he asked You Your name so he could identify You to the Israelites. You said to him, "I AM who I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: 'I AM has sent me to you'"
You also said to Moses, "Say to the Israelites, 'The Lord, the God of your fathers - the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob - has sent me to you'. This is My name forever, the name you shall call Me from generation to generation"
Jesus is the same, unchanging. The writer to the Hebrews stated quite simply, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever". Jesus said, "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away". His words are a constant in the universe, beyond time
Thank You for the assurance we get from knowing this; nothing and no one can change what Jesus said. He is Your Word to us. Those who Jesus said were blessed stay blessed! The poor in spirit, those who mourn, the meek, those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, the merciful, the pure in heart, the peacemakers, those who are persecuted because of righteousness. This sounds like a perfect description of Jesus himself!
Thank You for being as You are, constant. Thank You for Jesus, our constant source of strength. Thank You for Your Spirit, our constant companion, comforter, guide

Great is Thy Faithfulness

Heavenly Father, thank You that You always keep Your Word. Your Word is Your bond. You never break Your Word, You keep every promise You have made. I can trust Your Word entirely
We were all on death row, the sentence had been passed, we had been found guilty and the penalty for sin was death; but then the blood of Jesus spoke a better Word. The death sentence was commuted to life, life in all fullness. This was not life imprisonment, but life in abundance, freedom, a freedom we had never known
In sacrificing Himself, Jesus blew the doors of the prison cell wide open. We see this happening in St Paul's life! Paul was in prison, "About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God... Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once the prison doors flew open, and everyone's chains came loose"
The disciple Peter was also in prison, when suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up. "Quick, get up!" he said, and the chains fell of Peter's wrists. An iron gate opened by itself and Peter walked free
Thank You for the illustration, this is what Jesus does for us; He breaks the chains, opens the prison doors, and lets us walk free
Thank You for the freedom we have through Jesus
Thank You for this Life sentence: "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free"
May many more be set free today by Jesus, with no yoke of slavery. Who else would give their life for me?

Wednesday 16th September
Heavenly Father, sorry for the times I am simply adding to the noise in the world. Not only do I have a gong and a cymbal but a whole battery of percussion because I do not always speak in love. Too often I am saying what I think, what I want, what I would do; I make myself the 'great I am' when it is You who is I AM
So often I need to ‘Hush my mouth’, be still and know that You are God. You actually tell us, "Be still, and know that I AM God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth". If I raise my voice may it always be in adoration, in praise, in worship, in love, giving glory to You, because, "If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal"
It is far better if I let Your Word speak for You! Creation says it much better than I do! "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world"
A Word from Your mouth is so powerful. "My Word that goes out from My mouth: it will not return to Me empty, but accomplishes what I desire and achieves the purpose for which I sent it". Creation! You spoke to us through Your Word, Jesus, love spoken, love personified, Your purpose accomplished. May I speak Your Word today in love only and always; Jesus. Thank You

Be Still for the Presence of the Lord performed by Marilla Ness
Tuesday 15th September
Heavenly Father, we are told in Your Word, "By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible"
We are also told, "Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him"
So, what is faith? And why is it so important? Again, Your Word tells us, "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see":
Trusting You, even though I cannot see You, is faith?
Having confidence in You is faith?
Being assured comes through faith?
"By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going". In uncertain days our hope is found in You. You see beyond any horizon and guide us when we trust in You. You know the path You want us to take so we must listen to what You say in our heart to heart conversation and be guided by You. Trusting You to provide on our journey is faith
Sometimes we have to do some soul searching, but faith is knowing You speak into our souls so we can know the Way forward even though we may not see it. How much faith do I need? Jesus said, "Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move". My mountain? Lack of faith? Please help me to use my mustard seed of faith and see my faith and trust grow. Thank You

Monday 14th September
Heavenly Father, thank You for the time each day when I can sit here with You and pray. Every time we talk I seem to learn something new
Lord Jesus, You were recognised as a great Teacher and people who came to You often began with the word teacher:
A Pharisee, an expert in the Law, tested You with a question, "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?";
A certain ruler asked You, "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?";
When Mary met You, outside the empty tomb we are told You said to her "Mary". She turned towards You and cried out in Aramaic, "Rabboni!" (which means Teacher)
You often quoted scripture when faced with questions, and it seems that God does the same thing, which is not surprising as You and He are of the same essence, One and the same. In answering "Which is the greatest commandment?" You answered, "Love the Lord Your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: 'Love your neighbour as yourself'. There is no commandment greater than these"
Quotes from Deuteronomy and Leviticus. When asked how to inherit eternal life You answered, "You know the commandments: You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, you shall not defraud, honour your father and mother". A quote from Exodus
Teacher, if it was good enough for You it is good enough for me. I will keep learning, listening, reading, and quoting the small print
