Does the vaccine paper over the cause…?

 13th December 2020

VACCINE 12-2020 unsplashThe vaccine cannot cure the sickness, it is designed to prevent it from working – to prepare the body against attack.   But have we addressed the root cause?

We have been in a sort of ‘INTERNAL EXILE’, in many cases separated from loved ones and removed from places of work…

What have been causes of past Exiles of God’s people?  If we consider Jeremiah 16, we see the spiritual state of Israel before the Babylonian Exile especially verses 11 and 12.  These verses were in response to the questions in verse 10:
Why has God pronounced this great evil against us?

What is our iniquity?

What is our sin that we have committed against the LORD our God?

11 Then shalt thou say unto them, Because your fathers have forsaken me, saith the LORD, and have walked after other gods, and have served them, and have worshipped them, and have forsaken me, and have not kept my law;

12 And ye have done worse than your fathers; for, behold, ye walk every one after the imagination of his evil heart, that they may not hearken unto me

Verse 11 has identified 6 sins – surely enough! However, verse 12 has the final cause for the exile – ‘they walk after the imagination of their evil heart that they may not harken unto me’

If we look at some of the main areas that have been impacted by the pandemic – sports (especially football), pubs… alcohol and many live entertainments, yes these can be enjoyed in an acceptable healthy way.  But for many they were practically a substitute religion and moving into questionable morality.  And the economy – Gt Britain is classed as a rich nation – yet the scale of our borrowing has reached unprecedented levels – one of the watch words of the pandemic

My concern is that we have not addressed the root cause – as it was in Noah’s day – as Jesus prophesied it would be today – the imagination of man’s heart is evil continually

So much film / TV ‘entertainment’ especially drama is centred around evil.  You may say – well yes… it’s meant to be dramatic!  But at the same time Biblical values are often ridiculed and religion blamed for problems

Righteousness exalts a nation but sin is a reproach to any people. Prov 14:34

So what was the solution for the Jews in Exile – Daniel read in the prophecy of Jeremiah 25 that the years of exile were ending and he made great intercession for the nation:  Daniel 9:5

5 We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments

7 O Lord, righteousness belongeth unto thee, but unto us confusion of faces, as at this day…

Confusion of faces seems an appropriate description for many today

Many people have of course behaved in heroic and selfless ways – but the root cause of sin and turning away from the God of our fathers has to be addressed by each one especially the leaders.  God has been side-lined in the pandemic, seen as an irrelevance a minority interest

Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.  Gal 6:7

Christmas celebrations have been avidly guarded and hoped for.  May we appreciate the significance of the creator becoming one of us yet without sin… and give Him the honour that is belongs to Him

Jeremiah 17: 5  Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD

7 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is
