The Living Room winter Night Shelter needs volunteers

16th December 2020

LIVING ROOM LOGOThe Living Room is looking a little different this winter, with government guidelines preventing night shelters from opening if they operate from multiple venues

Fortunately there has been encouraging progress made in our relationship with the Borough Council, and they have been given national funding to hire an entire B&B for the winter to provide emergency shelter in a newly-created bubble.  The Living Room has partnered with them to run drop-ins during the week to provide various kinds of support to those benefitting from this shelter. The drop-ins will involve food, games, craft activities etc

For those who still find themselves rough sleeping (this is anticipated to be a handful of individuals), we are unable to invite them to the drop-ins due to Covid restrictions. Instead we will be providing takeaway meals at Minster Mission over the weekends, which also gives our Support Advocate, Jo Morrison, the chance to touch base with them and check they are ok

Volunteers are needed for both the drop-ins and the meal provision.  Drop-ins are at St George’s Hotel on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 2-5pm, and takeaway meals will be served from Minster Mission on Saturdays and Sundays 5-9pm
