Sunday 19th September
Heavenly Father, there will be many young people preparing for 'uni' at present, 'university' that is
What an interesting little group of letters 'uni' is! It begins the word 'universe', which covers virtually everything, and it also begins the word 'unique', which brings it down to a single item or person. You made the universe and you also created each of us, people, each one of us different, each one of us unique. You are also unique, One God!
When asked which is the most important commandment, Jesus replied, "Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is One. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength"
May young people going to university to learn, learn this one Truth, that there is One God, and that Jesus is Your Son and Your Holy Spirit testifies to this One Truth
Thank You that we can be 'united' in this Truth by the power of Your Spirit
Thank You that we can be members of Your Body, the 'community' of believers, and share in the bread and wine in 'communion' with each other and with You
May each believer put on the armour of God, the 'uniform' of the Christian soldier, ready to reach out to others with Your love. May each of Your children be 'united' with Christ, knowing the hope He brings, the assurance He brings of a life worth living, and a future which is guaranteed
Lord Jesus, there will be those who think You are a myth, like the 'unicorn', but You are the Way, the Truth, and the Life, the 'Universal' Truth: Alpha and Omega. Thank You

Saturday 18th September
Heavenly Father, it is so easy to focus on the news headlines and thus become despondent
The bitter irony of the song "It's good news week" doesn't seem to have lost any of its message as many of the sentiments still remain with us and resonate within us: "Someone's dropped a bomb somewhere contaminating atmosphere and blackening the sky..." We live a world full of conflict, a broken world, but there is Good News!
There is a Gospel which is Good News! Every day is a brand new day and with every morning we can sing songs which remind us Your steadfast love never ceases, Your mercies never come to an end, they are new every morning, great is Your faithfulness Lord.
The song echoes Your Word to us, "Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. I say to myself, 'The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for Him'"
The world may be broken but You are not! You never change and Your love for us never changes. When the ground shakes beneath our feet, when storms break over us, when our hearts are broken, when we are overcome with sorrow, You remain the same, so we wait for You
Despite all we have done, the Psalmist David tells us, "Your anger lasts only for a moment, but Your favour lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning"
Help me to focus on Your Good News today, every day, every week: Jesus

The Steadfast Love of the Lord
Friday 17th September
Heavenly Father, thank You for the songs that are written, inspired by Your Spirit, in which You sing over us, speak to us
Your songs speak directly to our hearts because You are a 'heart-to-heart' God
Your songs speak of Your love, Your grace, Your mercy, Your compassion, Your provision, Your nearness, Your presence
Your songs tell us that You know how we feel
Your songs tell us that You know all our fears
Your songs tell us that You know all our mistakes
Your songs tell us that You know all our wrong choices, all the times we have turned away from You
And Your songs tell us that despite everything we may or may not have done, You love us, You delight in us, and Your desire is to hold us close, to breathe new life into us
Your songs tells us that You sing over us, as a loving Father. You do not scream and shout, You murmur over us, whisper over us, soft, gentle melodies, love songs
Nothing can separate us from Your love, nothing in all eternity: Your Word tells us, "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord"
Thank You for carrying us on days when we are really struggling
Thank You for reminding us when we forget!
Thank You for encouraging us when we doubt
Thank You for singing songs of love over us, written for eternity on our hearts

Thursday 16th September
Heavenly Father, Jesus said to the disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field"
Thank You that over the centuries You have answered the prayer that Jesus suggested to the disciples, which they must have prayed, as thousands of people have gone out into Your harvest field. They must have prayed and people must have been sent because I am here today, as are millions of others. The harvest is the harvest of souls!
Thank You that even today there will be a harvest
Thank You that I can pray the prayer Jesus suggested and also answer the call to go out into Your harvest field to reap
We are told that we will reap what we sow! It may be that others will reap what I have sown, and I will reap what others have sown, but what is important is that there is a harvest
Lord Jesus, You said, "Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in Heaven". May good deeds be good seeds, sown into the hearts of others. May the hearts be like good soil, fertile soil, so the seed thrives. May they be fed and watered by God's almighty hand. May they be harvested when the time is right and go on to produce a further harvest, "a hundred, or sixty or thirty times what was sown"
Thank You for everyone who sows seeds and everyone who harvests
Holy Spirit bless those on street corners preaching and those in quiet rooms praying, and all who reap

Here I am
Wednesday 15th September
Heavenly Father, thank You for being patient with us. I guess there are still people for whom You are waiting, some living today and some who have yet to be born, that You want to see come to Jesus, repent and have their sins forgiven and receive the gift of eternal life
Perhaps that is why Jesus has not yet returned? Obviously, I don't know if that is the case! What I do know is that even Jesus did not know the hour; He said, "About that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in Heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father"
And I also know I am so grateful that You waited for me to meet Jesus, repent of my sins and receive the gift of eternal life and the Holy Spirit to guide me
Simon Peter told us to remember Your patience: "Do not forget this one thing, dear friends: with the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. Instead He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance"
As incredible as it may sound, Your Word tells us that, to You, it is as if only a couple of days have passed since Jesus returned to Heaven! And what an amazing number of people have been born, lived, died, and been saved in those couple of 'days'
Thank You for waiting. Without Your patience, Your loving kindness, many millions, including me, would have been lost; in fact never even born. You are great and worthy of all our praise. Thank You for saving me

Tuesday 14th September
Heavenly Father, thank You that I can come to You each day and ask to be filled with Your Spirit. You are a Good Father who loves to give good things to His children, and we can ask for nothing better or greater than Your Spirit
Holy Spirit be around me, upon me, and within me. Amen
As I pray, and as I tap in the text of my prayer, may I tap into Your Holy Spirit. As I speak may it be Your Holy Spirit speaking through me. When I meet people today, as people listen or as they read this prayer, may Your Spirit filter the words so that they only hear or read Your Word
King David wrote, "May these words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer"
Thank You for Your Word, alive and active!
Thank You for the many promises that are included in Your Word
Thank You that we can know the Truth and the Truth will set us free. "Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel because He has come to His people and redeemed them"
Thank You that because of Jesus I too am now redeemed, set free!
Thank You that You enable us to serve You without fear, in holiness and righteousness before You all our days
Thank You that You chose us in Christ before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in Your sight. In love You predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ in accordance with Your pleasure and Your will
Thank You that we have a destiny and the Way to follow
Thank You for freedom to choose

Monday 13th September
Heavenly Father, thank You for Jesus, He is the Living End! In general parlance 'the living end' is describing the utmost in any situation, something quite extraordinary; the most exceptional, superlative, or extreme example of something; anything particularly outrageous, absurd or scandalous (thank you Google for the definitions!)
Lord Jesus, I was thinking of You and how You give us hope for the future, that You offer us a Living End to life rather than a dead end. When we turn into a cul-de-sac, a dead end, there is no way out. When we turn to You there is Way ahead and endless possibilities; Eternal Life
Are You capable of the utmost in any situation? You most certainly are! Healing the sick, giving sight to the blind, raising the dead and so on
Are You quite extraordinary? You most certainly are! You are not ordinary, You always bring something extra; water into wine, food for thousands, calm seas
Are You the most exceptional, superlative, extreme example of 'something'? Definitely, the most exceptional, superlative, extreme example of a human being who ever lived; the Son of Man and the Son of God; Lord of lords, King of kings
Did You do anything particularly outrageous, absurd or scandalous? Without a doubt! You overturned the tables of the money changers in the temple, You forgave those who crucified You, allowed the scandal of the cross
Because of You, I do not face a dead end but a Living End, because You are the Living End. Thank You Jesus
