Sunday 25th April

Heavenly Father, if a glass is filled to the brim with water then when it is knocked water will spill out of it. If I am filled to the brim with Your Holy Spirit then what comes out when I am knocked is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and gentleness; self-controlled

So, I ask that You will fill me again today with Your Spirit so I am a new creation, no more in condemnation, here, in the grace of God, I stand

Thank You Father that when life puts me under pressure, which I know it will, then what is squeezed out of me will be good, because what You have put in me is good. I know I need You to fill me with Your Spirit every day because human nature is not good, but when You give me a new nature doing good becomes second nature to me

You tell us to "put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry". There was a time when I walked in these ways, in the life I once lived, but now You tell me I must "rid myself of such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from my lips". I can only do this by taking off the old self with its practices and putting on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator

By Your Spirit clothe me with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience

Lord Jesus, thank You for enabling all this to happen, paying for my sin on the cross and sending Your Spirit to live in people, like me
Amen

Saturday 24th April

Heavenly Father, every day the enemy is trying to build a wall between us. Every day the enemy is trying to build a case against me. Every day the enemy is trying to cast doubts upon everything I believe, and know to be true, about Jesus, the Messiah, Your Son. Every day the enemy, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour

Thank You Father for Jesus, who I know is my Saviour, who I know is my Defence, my Shield and Defender, the Ancient of Days

Thank You that every brick the enemy uses to build a wall is knocked away by the stone that rolled from the grave and saw Jesus emerge

Thank You that Jesus is my Advocate. Jesus said to the Scribes and Pharisees, "Do not think I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, on whom your hopes are set.  If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me.  But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?”

The Law would see me condemned, but Jesus is not only my Defence but has already paid the price and served the sentence, so I am free, an open and shut case because of the shut and open grave

Thank You Jesus, Lamb of God and Lion of Judah for defeating the enemy and removing his teeth, his roar is an empty threat as his mouth is empty except for lies

Thank You Father for the Truth, the Way, and the Life found in Jesus

Thank You Jesus for wiping my slate clean and writing my name in the Lamb's Book of Life
Amen

Friday 23rd April

Heavenly Father, thank You for giving us the ingredient we need for a good life, a worthwhile life, a life that honours You. The ingredient? Love!

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. Love your neighbour as yourself"

Love: "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs... It always protects, trusts, hopes and perseveres"

Love: "The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control"

Love; as a result of love: "I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord"

I might speak like an angel, prophesy, understand all things, know everything, have the faith that moves mountains and give everything I have to the poor, but if I do not have love, it does me no good. Where can I find this ingredient? A good life starts and ends with You

There is one life that accomplished everything, all of these things are found in Jesus. The ingredient I need is Jesus, the love of Jesus, the life of Jesus, the Spirit of Jesus; apart from Him I can do nothing. Jesus, Alpha to Omega, I need You

Fill me again with Your love, by Your Spirit
Amen

Thursday 22nd April

Heavenly Father, there are certain phrases in the Bible which stop me in my tracks! (Sometimes we say, "It stopped me, dead in my tracks”) I know we often read and reread the same words and then one day, for some reason the words resonate, come to life, and there is a new, deeper meaning revealed

"We will all be changed..." struck me this morning. It is a passage I know so well; St Paul writes, "I declare to you brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the Kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. Listen, I tell you a mystery: we will not all sleep, but we will all be changed - in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed"

Jesus, resurrected, had a different kind of body; it could appear and disappear for one thing. I don't know if we will be able to do that when we are all changed, but I do know this, "Just as we have borne the image of the earthly man, so shall we bear the image of the Heavenly Man". Jesus had a body like ours, the Son of Man, and one day we will have a body like His, the Son of God, imperishable

Thank You for the assurance, and reassurance, we get from Jesus’ resurrection, and His promise, "My Father's house has many rooms... I am going there to prepare a place for you... I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am". A new home, a new body. We will be changed! Wow!
Amen

Wednesday 21st April

Heavenly Father, we often hear it said that 'actions speak louder than words'. You often speak in a whisper. What You did for us on the cross speaks loudly! Whatever I shout from the rooftops will mean very little if what I do on the ground does not speak louder

Father, may my words be very few, and may they be very quiet. What You say You will do, You do. You always keep Your Word; You send it and it comes back to You. "As the rain and the snow come down from Heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my Word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it"

Jesus, Your Word was sent into the world and accomplished all You sent Him to do. His life, death and resurrection have yielded the seed which we sow today, may it bud and flourish as You water it

Jesus, is the Bread of Life for the eater, so we are enabled and strengthened for the work You want us to do. "What I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. It is not up in heaven so that you have to ask, 'Who will ascend into Heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?' Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you have to ask, 'Who will cross the sea to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?' No, the Word is very near to you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it"

May I obey today
Amen

song for today:
My heart is not raised up too high

Tuesday 20th April

Heavenly Father, sometimes we are required to compromise, it is suggested that we "meet halfway"

I wonder if it is possible to meet You half way? Could we enter Heaven while still being sinful? Not thoroughly evil, but just a bit bad? It is quite impossible to imagine that Heaven would be a place where bad things could happen, where bad people could live, where what has happened before ‘the fall’ could happen all over again. There can be no compromise

And so, it seems to me, You compromised Yourself! To compromise oneself means to put oneself at risk or make oneself vulnerable, and this is exactly what You did. You came from Heaven to earth, compromising Yourself, making Yourself vulnerable, putting Yourself at risk, so that the righteous demands of the Law would be fully met. "What the Law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so He condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the Law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit"

Jesus paid the price for our sin, at the going rate! "The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord". Compromise, includes a promise, Your promise that You would send a Saviour, a Messiah, to rescue us from our sins

Thank You, that You did not meet us half way, but came the whole way, to be the Way
Amen

Monday 19th April

Heavenly Father, You know that for many years, well into my adult life, I did not like cheesecake or yoghurt, or at least I believed I didn't. I wouldn't even try them such was the strength of my belief. And then one day, for a reason known only to You, I tried cheesecake and a new favourite was born, I found I really enjoyed it! Years later the same thing happened with strawberry flavoured yoghurt and then other yoghurt flavours

In one of the Psalms, King David encourages us, "Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him". For years, I didn't want anything to do with You, God, and then one day, for a reason known only to You, I decided to try You, I tasted, found and saw that You are good; a new favourite was born in my life, Jesus

Thank You for encouraging me to try, for not giving up on me. You spoke to us through Your prophet, Isaiah, "Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labour on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight in the richest fare". You do not feed us 'left overs', You feed us 'the richest fare', the very best

I found that Jesus is the best, the best friend, the best King, the best Lord, the best God, the best Saviour. Work does not satisfy, only You satisfy. The Bread and Wine of Jesus is the best fare. Thank You for feeding me
Amen
