So, the government doesn’t know which way to turn in response to the current floods
The Prime Minister’s comment that “money is no object” was surely not a promise to throw endless millions at the situation but rather recognition that no amount of money can make floods instantly disappear! Money is not the answer – it is an inadequate god! But, after the scandals of city bonuses, the financial collapse and the austerity programme surely this is not a new message
Indeed, centuries ago Paul wrote “The love of money is the root of all evil” (1 Timothy 6.10) whilst Jesus himself explained that “You cannot serve both God and money” (Luke 16.13)
David Cameron, surveying the Somerset Levels last week, described the floods as of Biblical proportions. Would not the next step be to call the nation to prayer – a step which turned the tide during the Second World War? Is it not time for us to flood the churches of our nation with worshippers putting God back at the centre of our affairs and seeking the godly wisdom which is found in His Word?
Might we start such a trend in this county this Sunday?
