PanAfro Band concert
St Edmunds Church, Acle, was the venue for a vibrant afternoon of African music on Sunday 25th May, with a fundraising concert by the PanAfro Band
Headed by Ugandan singer/dancer Perfect Bakashaba, the band plays songs from around the African continent, with a line-up of keyboards, guitar, trumpet, backing vocals, and plenty of percussion
The first half of the concert focused on upbeat, melodic songs with the bright vocal and horn harmonies typical of African 'guitar band' music
The second half ranged into more funky and percussive territory, and several members of the audience were persuaded to don grass skirts and join in with some energetic dancing in the final number
In the interval there were delicious African-themed snacks provided by the concert organiser, church warden Diane, including chim chim and Nigerian buns (recipe provided by Father Alvan of St Peter's Church Gorleston, who sings and plays percussion in the band)
The total raised was £323.25 for Access4Acle, a project aiming to make St Edmunds Church step-free and accessible for electric wheelchair users
