THE BLESSED HOPE

The second coming of Jesus, is a topic, that many of us as Christians, like to avoid talking about.  Are we emviewpointbarrassed, or afraid of being made to look foolish? In the past some individuals have falsely claimed to be Christ.  Some have tried to predict accurately the date, but failed. And those involved have been the subject of ridicule. The bible is clear on this point. “But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my father only” Mathew 24v36. Three questions come to mind. 1) Can we be sure it will take place? 2) How will He come? 3) Will it be soon, or in the distant future? Jesus made a solemn promise in John 14 v 1-3 and He never breaks His word. The two angels on the mount of ascension confirm this promise Acts 1 v10+11.

Jesus warned us, there will arise, false Christs, and false prophets Mathew 24v23-25. If we are told He has arrived in a remote place, or He is in a secret chamber, don’t believe it Mathew 24 v26. He will come with a shout, with the voice of the Archangel, and with the trump of God, 1 Thessalonians 4 v 16+18. With fire and lightning, 2 Thessalonians 1v8, Mathew 24v27, with power and great glory Mathew 24v30. Who will come with Him? All the holy angels will accompany Him, Mathew 25v31.

The return of Jesus will be the grandest spectacle of all time. How many, on the earth will see this event? “Every eye shall see Him, and they also which pierced Him,” Revelation 1v7. What are the signs of His coming? “Many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.” In the last 50 years technology has developed at an amazing speed. Prodigious increase of wealth and it’s concentration in the hands of a few. “Go to now rich man….Ye have heapeDove rightd treasure together for the last days.”   In America 90% of the wealth is in the hands of 2% of the people.

The Bible states that before the end there would be a reversal in the fortunes of the rich. “Come now you rich weep and howl” ….James 5 v 1-5. “Wars and rumours of wars,” Mathew 24 v 6+7 “Distress of nations with perplexity…men’s hearts failing them for fear,” Luke 21 v 25+26. Jesus compared the end time in which we live with the riotous pleasure seeking, of those living in Noah’s day Genesis 6 v 5-8.

All this, may sound depressing but as Christians we should be glad. When Jesus comes the sin problem will be dealt with once and for all. No more death. If we are faithful we will be reunited with those we have loved and lost. No war or violence. No more illness or disease. No deformities. No poverty.  No growing old. Perfect, in spirit, mind, and body. Question is, are we ready, and do we long for His return?
