Symons-273

Lieutenant Rob Symons
Along with my wife Lieutenant Georgina Symons, we are the leaders of The Salvation Army Church and its ministry here in Great Yarmouth

For over nine months my wife Georgina and I and our daughter Naomi played the waiting game. Patiently, excitedly and at times nervously we pondered the arrival of our new addition. Thirteen days overdue, he arrived; our newborn son, Daniel DANIEL SYMONSThomas; the perfect complement to the new Guinea Pig! Standing there at 2.30am, semi-conscious from spending the past 24 hours on pins, I looked at his beautiful and perfect face and was instantly reminded of the words in Jeremiah 1:5; ‘before I shaped you in the womb, I knew all about you’ and Psalm 139:14-15 which says ‘body and soul, I am marvellously made! You know me inside and out, you know every bone in my body; you know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something (Message Paraphrase)

I recalled how God knows and loves each and every one of us and how he sent his one and only Son, Jesus to die on the cross for us so that we may be reconciled to Him. My experience as a Salvation Army Officer and Christian however; has shown me first hand that not everybody believes this. Why would God be interested in me, my life, my future, they would often say; or I’m not worthy enough to be known by God?  The truth is that God loves each and every one of the billions of people around the world and knows us all personally

What God craves most though, is for a personal ‘relationship’ with each of us. What an awe inspiring thought to think that God; the creator, preserver and governor of all things wants to be a part of our lives, both here on earth now and into eternity in His kingdom. God has made the first move. Through his Son Jesus Christ; he has paved the way for humanity to enter into friendship with him. The question is whether we want to be a part of it

You know modern technology is wonderful. All the electronic features and capability you can ever imagine wanting can now be found in one single device. Amidst all the technological advancements though, each and every one of us has the unique ability to communicate with God, the maker of the heavens and the earth simply through prayer. There is no expensive equipment needed, or any special connections or wiring; just the ordinary human heart

Recently, I gathered with the many hundreds celebrating the start of the Christmas festivities by watching the big ‘switch on’ in the Market Place. My hope and prayer for each and every one this Christmas, is that they will respond to the call of Jesus, God’s own son on their life; the light of the world, and take that first step, entering into a journey with him. Believe me, it will be the best present you ever receive, life will never be the same, you will be totally transformed and I guarantee you will never look back
