As a wise old man said, when asked for directions by a lost motorist, “Well if I was going there, I wouldn’t start from here”.  For each of us, in our life’s journey, we have no option but to start from right where we are.  Today is indeed the first day in the rest of our life

Whatever problems and challenges the past year brought us, we have a choice, as we face the journey into our future, to shape that future by the way we approach it.  We all know people who experienced bereavement or tragedy in one form or another in 2019, and maybe some readers of this article faced such traumas themselves.  The way we deal with such challenges and move on can have a profound influence on the whole of the rest of our lives.

dove leftIn previous New Year articles, I have made reference to the great Christmas message, from the first chapter of John’s Gospel, that gives us tremendous insights regarding who Jesus actually is, as he is referred to as the Word of God, and the Light of the World.  We can read, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”.  For John, Jesus, the Word of God, which means, the Mind, the Wisdom, the Power, or the Spirit of God, and is translated from the Greek word ‘logos’, which gives us our word, ‘logic’, was there before time began.  And John tells us of Jesus, that “In Him was life; and the life was the light of mankind”

The light of hope, and the light of faith that comes through those profound words of John, has brought, peace, light, hope and encouragement, through faith, for many, including myself, when faced with bereavement, or other dark and difficult situations.  For any who may have such challenges ahead in 2020, may those words and that message, bring comfort, hope and peace

Dove rightFor most of us, one of the things we seek in our lives is peace; the peace that St Paul referred to in his letter to the Philippians, when he wrote, “And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus”

In his final days with his friends, Jesus spoke with them to prepare them for the time that he would no longer be there with them, he said, “Peace is what I leave with you; it is my own peace that I give you. I do not give it as the world does.  Do not be worried and upset; do not be afraid”

Mother Teresa once said, “Peace begins with a smile”.  It may seem simplistic, but that’s a guideline we can all follow in our daily lives
