Monday 10th November
Heavenly Father, thank You for the voice calling: "In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain. And the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all people will see it together. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken"
This voice was calling not only from the wilderness; it was calling to people in the wilderness! Isaiah prophesied about this voice to the Israelites, who had been taken captive and were far from home. The voice of John the Baptist called in the wilderness, to the Israelites, who were in Israel at the time, but oppressed by the Romans, but also their hearts were far from God
At Pentecost Peter called out to the people of Israel: "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off - for all whom the Lord our God will call"
He was echoing Jesus' own words: "Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven has come near." And that same call goes out today to all who are still far off. Your Word assures us: "Now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ"
You have come to meet us, just as the father came to meet the prodigal son: "While he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him"
Lord Jesus, thank You that when I was far off, in the wilderness, I heard Your voice calling, I repented and found that Your Kingdom was at hand, in fact it is within me by Your Spirit: You said, "The coming of the Kingdom of God is not something that can be observed, nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is in your midst"
Thank You that You have gone ahead of us and that there is a place prepared for us: "Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in Me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with Me that you also may be where I AM." Thank You that we can rest assured, there is a place for us
Amen
